Let me tell you (though all you mothers out there know), being a mama is not a walk in the park. Through all the moments of having to change diapers (while my son is trying to help down there with his ever-curious little hands), picking up miscellaneous cheerio’s and crunchy snacks out of the carpet (or stepping on them and cringing at that sound of a fruit loop being demolished under my boot) and trying to not burn dinner on the stove while keeping a third eye on the kid, life is hard enough. Throw in a full load of online college schoolwork, start-up of a home business, keeping up with the bills and grocery shopping (as well as the demands of keeping up with the housework), and all the while making sure to have time for my spouse, it’s enough to make anybody’s head explode by the end of the week.
Trust me, if I was in any other place but where I am now, I would be crying in the corner, wondering how life got so complicated and hard. Majorly hard. Just the other weekend I was ready to call it quits because I was so behind on schoolwork. I couldn’t see past the dark tunnel I was in. I was losing time with my baby, with my husband, and the house was a wreck. I was ready to fall apart.
But something kept me going. Someone kept me going. Jesus gave me peace beyond all human understanding, and I knew in my heart I had to give something up. Something had to go.
And here I am, in my last week of my part-time job away from home, deciding that laying down my job was the best decision for my family…and for myself. More time for school—more time with my husband—more time with my son—more time to work on my flexible home business—and more time to do what I love, all the while having Jesus by my side.
Mama’s, what is wearing you down these days? You don’t have to do it all and accomplish all! What’s making your back ache from the tension of the load your carrying? Something’s gotta go, doesn’t it? You’re just not quite sure what to let go, or if you’re ready to let go.
Mama’s, let the One who knows you from the inside out help lift some of that burden of your tired shoulders. Go to your Abba Father. Ask Him what you should let go. Ask Him what will fulfill your day with joy and purpose—and trust Him as you follow His guidance.
To the mom’s out there, it’s time to see that elated smile again. It’s time you reply with “It’s been such a fulfilling joyful day” when asked how your day is going, instead of the usual, “Just trying to push through” or “Busy busy busy”.
It’s time to let go, mama. Will you let go with me?
“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus”. ~Philippians 4:7 NLT
